Four Villages Inn Hosts Canadian Travel
Experts * September 14, 2003
|
 |
In August,
Four Villages Inn played host to three travel consultants from Montreal,
Canada who were in Kumasi to attend the First Conference of African Traditional
Rulers at the Manhiyia Palace. Travel Writer Robert Burch is a veteran
visitor to Ghana and has written numerous stories aobut our tourist attractions.
Photographer Steve Austin is known for his compelling portraits of indigenous
peoples. Long a specialist in Southeast Asia, this was his first trip to
Africa. Mark Sigler, shown here, is a consultant with Foreman-Ideal, one
of the three largest travel agencies in Canada. Mark expressed his fondness
for Ghana beer and was amused by the variety of local signage. The "Commissioner
of Oaths" must compete with the "Take a Step for Jesus" haircut salon,
the "Mexico Cafe", a "Licensed Auctioneer" and "Computer Printing"! |

Be Treated Like a Royal at Four Villages
Inn * September 13, 2003
|
| Four Villages
Inn treats you like
an Ashanti Princess ... so says Astrid H. from Germany who is shown here
"holding court" at the Four Villages Inn. Should you wish to purchase a
Chief's umbrella, an ornate throne, a royal stool ... or perhaps even a
Linguist's staff, just ask your hosts Charity or Chris. We know where the
regalia shops are that the royals patronise. The Kumasi area is also famous
for the abundance of craftsmen who carve stools, fasion royal beads and
of course, the goldsmiths who create works of art from the richest mine
in the world - the Ashanti Goldfields in Obuasi just south of Kumasi and
only a half hour away. Treat yourself to a "royal" time when you visit
us in Kumasi! |

When
you turn off the main road, you'll notice the large shiny new black gate
to Four Villages Inn. The gate was made at the Kumasi Technical Institute,
a school with a strong Canadian connection. This year, K.T.I. is
celebrating its 25th Anniversary, and the Canadian High Commissioner, M.
Bolduc is invited to the activities. M. Bolduc is a repeat visitor at Four
Villages. Our resident artist, Osei Kwame, painted the marvelous illustrations. |

US Ambassador Stays at Four Villages Inn
* September 9, 2003
|
| The US
Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs. Mary Carlin-Yates, stayed two nights at Four
Villages Inn during her recent official visit to Kumasi. Ambassador Carlin-Yates
wrote in our Guest Book, " ... Thank you for the very hospitable stay."
We hope the commotion caused by her motorcade and the numerous protocol
people did not disturb our neighbours too much. Four Villages Inn is accustomed
to hosting diplomats from different countries as well as various officials
from the United Nations and other organisations. |

Where in the World is Four Villages Inn?
* June 26, 2003
|
Having
trouble finding us? Well, we are North 6° 38.7 minutes and West 1°
37.2 minutes. And you'll really know you are entering the luxurious Four
Villages Inn if you find yourself 852' above sea level. So Chuck Groth
informs us using his G.P.S. (short for Global Positioning System). Note
that Chuck and Jeanette Groth don't need help finding Four Villages Inn.
They are among our many repeat guests since our opening in January 2000.

Bu Me Be (Say a Proverb to Me) Book
of Akan Proverbs * June 25, 2003
|
Four
Villages Inn is proud to add this recently published 1214 page collection
of 7015 proverbs from the Akan culture to its library on African subjects.
What's more... it is autographed 'with compliments to Four Villages Inn'
by one of the authors, Peggy Appiah, a British expatriate and friend
of FVI who has lived in Ghana since Independence in 1957. Peggy is a prolific
writer of over twenty books with African themes. Her recently published
book of poems 'THOUGHT BIRDS' is available for sale at FVI. And...
should you wish to buy a copy of bu me be, we can perhaps
organize a visit to the author, an octogenerian, who lives close by and
always likes visitors.

August Excitement in Kumasi * May
12, 2003
|
 |
Kumasi
becomes the centre of attention from August 2 - 5, 2003 when the first
ever "Conference of Traditional African Rulers" ceremonies will be held
at the Royal Palace of the Ashanti king and the Sports Stadium. Opening
ceremonies for this unique event are scheduled for Saturday, August 2.
The conference is the initiative of the reigning Ashanti king, His Majesty,
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. It marks the first time in Africa's history that
royals from across the continent will assemble in one place to discuss
issues of African development and the preservation of local cultures. The
Grand Durbar promises to be a colourful spectacle of African royals complete
with their entourages. Kings from South Africa, Burkina Faso, Benin and
Nigeria are expected to attend. Hotel rooms in Kumasi will be scarce, so
reserve your room at Four Villages Inn NOW if you want to attend this pageant. |

More Reviews for Four Villages Inn * May
11, 2003
|
Four
Villages Inn continues to earn rave reviews: Guardian Newspaper
UK - If you are envious of your gap-year progeny's trip to Ghana, I recommend
booking a tour with SQ Travel, tel: 0208 742 0278. Run by Mathew Simpson,
we had wonderful service throughout with helpful first-hand advice.
We enjoyed staying at the Four Villages Inn, Kumasi, run by Chris and Charity,
a Canadian/Ghanaian couple (www.fourvillages.com). The four guest
bedrooms are decorated with traditional crafts from the Ashanti region
and Chris provides many extras, such as guided tours accompanied by a lovely
lady called Comfort.

Riddle Number 3 * April 28,
2003
|
| Question:
What do an idustrial physicist, a diplomat and a volunteer teacher - all
working in Ghana - have in common? |
 |
| Answer:
They all bring their visiting relatives to Four Villages Inn where they
know they will be well cared for. Yes we seem to be the place of choice
when it comes to looking after expatriates' loved ones. Such is the confidence
they have placed in us over the years. So rest assured: you too, visiting
from overseas, will be treated to a wonderful experience at Four Villages
Inn. |

|
| Pictured
here are Dr. Tom Garett and Dr. Michael Harper, both from Great Britian,
along with your host Chris out birdwatching. But what bird is making them
laugh like that? Answer: your other host, Charity, who is up on the verandah
flapping her 'wings'! Actually, if birdwatching is your passion, you've
come to the right place. We've got two pairs of binoculars you can borrow
for that early morning sortie through the tranquil first class residential
