African Voices and the Atlantic Slave Trade
* December 28, 2005
|
Beyond the Silence and the Shame
by Anne C. Bailey
We are
proud to add this title to our collection of African non-fiction. Fulbright
scholar Anne Bailey stayed at Four Villages Inn when she was doing some
of her research in 2003. She mentions your hosts Charity and Chris Scott
in the ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS section of her book. This book represents
the first history of the African slave trade culled from the memories of
those African left behind. The book was published by Beacon Press, Boston
in 2005. |

Your Host Chris Gets Around Ghana *
December 19, 2005
|
| Your
host, Chris, has been on the road of late leaving the guest house in the
capable hands of son Frank and trusted employee, Sandra. Chris travelled
to Keta on the east coast of Ghana in his capacity of Ashanti Regional
Secretary to attend the 4th National Executive Council Meeting of the Ghana
Hotels Association. Then he was off cross-country to join a Ghana Tourist
Board organized tour of the Western Region assisting Ashanti Regional Manager
Ben Anane Nsiah in leading fledgling tour operators from Kumasi. |
 |
Should
you be travelling along the east coast of Ghana headed towards the Ghana/Togo
border, Lorneh Lodge and Beach Resort is THE place to stay. Contact: 0966-42160,
020-8116748. If you don't get through, just go; they have 41 rooms available
now and 20 more in the finishing stages.
And, of
course, in the Western Region, make a beeline to African Rainbow Resort

The pictures
were taken from two ULM that made a remarkable flight over eight West African

Clubs of West Africa (9100), which your hosts at Four Villages Inn belong
to. |

President John Agyeman Kuffour as he takes you around the spectacular sites
of this dynamic emerging democracy. This one-hour special will also be

Such a
project was done on Uganda a few years ago and visits to that country from
the US jumped an incredible 30%. As primary resources are fast being depleted,
tourism is being promoted as the major vehicle for development ... thus
the President of GHANA proudly shows off the rich potential of this intriguing
nation. |

October 1, 2005
|
Since
April, 2004, FOUR VILLAGES INN has maintained its rates fixed at US$60
(or cedi equivalent) for a single, US$65 for a double and US$10 for an
extra bed - excluding VAT - but including our famous full breakfast. Since
that time we have added new facilities and services and have borne the
additional costs. Effective October 1, 2005
With
rising local costs, we must raise (ever so slightly) the cost of a double

A District Commisioner Comes to Stay! *
September 21, 2005
|
|
| Impossible,
you say ... District Commissioners went out with the colonial era!!!!
But
not on television. British actor Ian Masters, star of the hilarious 13
part series DISTRICT COMMISSSION'S COURT on local TV, chose F.V.I. Here's
what he wrote in our guest book: "A place fit for a colonial district commissioner.
Very nice, and I hope that I have the chance to come back before leaving
Ghana." |
 |
| And...like
a lot of expatriates residing in Ghana, Ian came along with his parents,
visiting Ghana for the first time. Here's what they wrote in the guest
book: "Thank you so much. A lovely place to stay." Irene and David Masters. |

This
is a picture taken at FOUR VILLAGES INN during a farewell party and a welcome
party too! On Chris' right is Karen Lauterbach, a Danish researcher, who
is leaving F.V.I. after a seven week stay. And... on Chris' left is Claudine
Ethier, a Canadian forest engineer, who has just arrived for a two month
stay. What is really significant is that for both Karen and Claudine, it
was for each of them, their SECOND long term stay. |
Four Villages
