Four Villages Inn Hosts Medical Student,
Cecilia Wu * April 4, 2008
|
 |
Four
Villages Inn had the pleasure of hosting University of Washington medical
student Cecilia Wu during her clinical work at the teaching hospital in
Kumasi. During her time with us she visited Operation Hand in Hand in the
village of Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region. In her own words ... "Early
in the morning, I left Four Villages Inn and caught a taxi to Kejetia Lorry
Station. From there, a kindly lady led me to satellite tro-tro station
that went to Techiman. From Techiman, I took a shared taxi to Nkoranza.
From Nkoranza, it was a short dusty walk to the local St. Theresa Hospital.
Behind the hospital, was Operation Hand in Hand. Upon entering the compound,
my first impression was that this compound was large, white, spacious and
calm! The compound had white-washed huts and houses where 60 mentally handicapped |
children lived with their caretakers.
There were huts for dancing, huts for crafts such as beadwork and kente
weaving, huts for games and huts for music. The children were gathered
for drumming and singing, and the next activity was dipping into the pool.
All of them seemed happy and well cared-for. |
| If you
are willing to stay for 3 months, you could be a volunteer and work with
the lovely children. However, if you simply wish to visit for a day
or two, there were several guest houses, ranging from 9 to 15 cedis per
night. The toilets and showers were "open-air", the rooms were spacious
with mosquito-nets, and most interestingly, was the room in the "rock-house",
where the rooms were built into this large rock formation. Nkoranza
is a great spot to go see the Fiema Monkey Santuary, among other local
attractions. The greatest attraction of all, however, is the laughter
and the singing at Operation Hand in Hand. This oasis is a touching
place where abandoned and disabled children find a home, a hug and a kiss." |

You Win Some ... You Lose Some ... * February
26, 2008
|
 |
It had
to happen sooner or later. After receiving many glowing reports about Four
Villages Inn from our visitors, it seems one guest wasn't quite satisfied
with his stay. |
Well, there
is that old adage: "You can't please them all." But at Four Villages Inn,
that is exactly what we strive to do - Please them ALL. Fortunately, MOST
of our guests describe FVI with favorable reports - such as this one from
Ellen
NYS: "By the time we finally arrived at the Four Villages Inn we
were tired, hot, smelly and very dirty! The security guard opened the gate
to the entrance of Four Villages Inn. We were SHOCKED and DELIGHTED! It
looked beautiful from the out side. ... All I could think and say was-
A TOUCH of NY in Ghana. Chris and Charity - (his wife) have created a place
of charm and beauty. It is truly a home!" Read the entire review

and successfully defended their 2006 title as winner of the Cup. During
the two weeks of soccer action, the city erupted with news of a Black Stars
win with horns honking and music blaring well into the early morning hours. |
|
| Four Villages
Inn would like to take this oppoortunity to congratulate our national team
Black Stars on their Third Place finish. |

"The Best Hotel in Town" * February
18, 2008
|
 |
| The February,
2008 edition of WORLD SOCCER, a magazine out of the U.K. which is circulated
internationally, featured stories on the recently played Africa Cup of
Nations hosted by Ghana and staged at stadiums in Accra, Kumasi, Secondi
and Tamale. |
 |
| Hotel
space in Kumasi was at a premium, with all available rooms taken over for
players, coaches, officials, and the visiting dignitaries and fans. |
 |
In a
story on the four venues, Four Villages Inn got a great plug:
"The best hotel in Kumasi is the
fabulous Four Villages Inn to the south of the centre and wonderfully set
in gardens." |

F.V.I not "Their Cup of Tea ..." * January
30, 2008
|
Visiting
Kumasi? Need something special? We are here for you to help make your arrangements.
| A story:
Recently guests arrived at Four Villages Inn, and to our great surprise,
were only interested in where the bar was. Four Villages Inn definitely
was not what they thought their travel agent had booked them into. After
they had enjoyed a few drinks from one of the room mini-bars, Charity personally
escorted them to a nearby hotel and helped them book in. When she was asked
by one of the party why she was doing all this for them, Charity replied,
"You are visiting |
 |
my country and I want you to enjoy yourselves."
Such is the spirit of FOUR VILLAGES INN. |

FVI Hosts Author & Inspirational Speaker
Dawn Brown * January 12, 2008
|
 |
| Day in
and day out, year in and year out, Four Villages Inn hosts
dynamic, self confident and, of course, world travelled individuals. Dawn
Brown symbolizes this clientele in that not only does she talk the talk
- she walks the walk. |
 |
| She left
her CD "Choosing Opportunity" and one of her books "That Perception Thing",
both valuable additions to our constantly growing library. |
|
 |
Travelling
with her cousin Dr. Denyse Thornley-Brown, both ladies took a particular
interest in Charity's Scott Trade Institute where they decided to embark
on a project to sponsor one girl to Canada for one year less a day. Here's
what the ladies wrote in the guest book: |
| "This has been a wonderful and
enlightening experience. What a pleasure knowing you both and spending
time at your home." D.B. |
| "What a wonderful time I had!
Excellent food, fantastic fellowship, super shopping! I had a blast!" D.T.-B. |
| Postscript:
Janet Adansi, a seventeen year old student of Scott Trade, is now in the
process of acquiring her Ghanaian passport after which she will apply for
a visa to visit Canada for one year less a day. More in future updates. |

"The Sage of Kumasi" * January
12, 2008
|
 |
In December
2007, Mr. Andrew Cantor of the Stanford Graduate School of Business contacted
FOUR VILLAGES INN. He had been to our web site, liked what he saw, and
although we were too small to accommodate his group of 25 graduate
students and teachers, he asked Four Villages Inn to make arrangements
for his group: a hotel, restaurant reservations, and tours. |
On leaving,
he presented a leather bound school diary with the inscription:
"To our Sage of Kumasi, Thank
you so much for all of your time and help in ensuring our trip was so wonderful.
Yours in appreciation ... Stanford G.S.B, Ghana Study Trip" |

Our First Review in "I Go U Go" * Decdember
27, 2007
|
| Four
Villages Inn has received our first review on the popular travel website:
"I Go U Go", courtesy of John Palfrey, who writes - "Once you step through
the gates you are leaving Africa behind, and stepping into a very relaxing
and comfortable family home. ... Canadian owned, it is equal to the high
standards you would expect in North America. Famed for its breakfast, it
is also worthwhile taking dinner one evening, as hostess Charity is an
excellent cook and this is a fine opportunity to equate with Ghanaian food
if you have not already done so. Click
