truly honoured to have been chosen to be highlighted. |
 |

Chimpanzees Doing Well at the Kumasi Zoo
* September 9, 2008
|
 |
Four
Villages Inn recently had a guest involved in the welfare of chimpanzees
that were brought to Kumasi after the closure of the Accra Zoo. The Accra
Zoo is being relocated to make room for the construction of the new Presidential
Complex at the Flagstaff House. The chimps at the Kumasi Zoo now number
five. Several years ago a new enclosure was built for them that allows
them to visit each other's cages. In the wild in Ghana, it is believed
that chimps are extinct except for a small population in the Western Region
bordering Cote d'Ivoire. |
Our guest
Gwendolyn Wellmann, wrote: "I recently visited the young chimps in Kumasi
again. I am pleased to report that they now have free roam of three
cages (all relatively clean) and half of the bridge. They love the red
ball they play with and often sit in the big swing. They seem very happy
now, which is quite a change from June. The two older ladies are
sedate and happy as well. Thank you to everyone who helped in sorting out
this issue, especially Karen who put me in touch with Dr Suu-ire." |

'Travel Agenda' Creator Returns to Four
Villages Inn * August 27, 2008
|
 |
Recently,
David Cleaves, the inspiration behind “Travel Agenda”, a web site devoted
to “Ghana - a country worth visiting”, returned to Four Villages for another
stay. Here's what he wrote in our guest book: "I could not stay away
for long but had to return! See you again soon for another meal together." |
Don't forget,
if you are coming to Ghana or planning to explore more of Ghana, visit
this great site at www.travelagenda.org.
Lots more has been added since we first brought your attention to this
site. |
| Postscript:
David is back again from the U.K just about four months since his last
visit. Now here's an individual that has a passion for Ghana and is doing
his utmost to promote its tourist industry. |

News From the Scott Trade Institute * August
17, 2008
|
| Dutch
NGO "Kids in Development", founded by Ilse Landa, has purchased
an industrial sewing machine for the school to make curtains, sheets, table
clothes for their Save Our Children Orphanage at Anwiankwanta, a village
not too far from Scott Trade Institute. The money acquired through a donation
from the United Nations Women Guild also bought a large amount of material
to start the work. Visit the web site at www.kindereninontwikkeling.nl/english/

Broadband High Speed Internet Now Available
* August 8, 2008
|
 |
| Now
you don't need to go all the way into town to access the internet. By the
way, with a two night stay at FVI, we will give you one hour of free time. |
| Like
with the hammock on the veranda, should you see this guy hogging time
on the computer and you want to check your emails, well, just go right
ahead and kick him off ...! |

"Guest House of the year 2008" - AGAIN!
* July 20, 2008
|
| We've
done it again!!! We're the best in Ashanti for the third time. And it's
not like we've changed much ... we kept to our vision, offering just four
quality rooms and a whole lot of personalised service. |
|
| Now it's
on to the next level of competition. This year the Ghana Tourist Board
has reorganised its award system, creating three zones: coastal, consisting
of Accra, Volta, Central and Western Regions; middle or forest zone, consisting
of Eastern Region, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo; and northern or savannah zone,
consisting of the three northern regions. |
|
| Update:
We are pleased to announce that an establishment in the regional capital
of Brong Ahafo Sunyani has won for the forest zone. Ayikoo, Congratulations! |

F.V.I. Nominates Comfort for Tour Guide
of the Year * July 7, 2008
|
 |
| The Tourism
Awards are coming up and we are sitting with bated breath awaiting the
decision by the GHANA TOURIST BOARD on the winner of best tour guide in
Ashanti. For years now our Comfort has been taking guests of FOUR VILLAGES
INN to various places of interest in and around Kumasi. Her 2 to 3 hour
market tour is now so popular that we think guests come here specifically
for her tours. That's the market in the background. Now really!!! Would
you dare to enter that alone? |
 |
| You see,
Comfort's tours have traditionally been for the exclusive enjoyment
of FOUR VILLAGES INN guests. |
 |
Here's
a comment that was e-mailed by guests who had returned home and sent pictures,
including this one: "She was a very gracious and professional guide.
I would like to have spent more time talking to her."
Sue Cumberpatch, York, U.K., May

|
Postscript:
Comfort didn't win, so Four Villages Inn will continue the campaign to
get Comfort the recognition she so richly deserves. |

Four Villages Inn: Making a Difference *
June
28, 2008
|
| Not to
be outdone by Charity and Scott Trade Institute, host Chris is also very
involved in the community. An active member of the Kumasi East Rotary Club,
District 9100, Chris often addresses clubs in Canada to create awareness
of projects his club has embarked upon. One such project that the club
implimented on its own was defumigating the desperately overcrowded Kumasi
Central Prison. |
 |
| Rotarian
Four Villages, as he is called for obvious reasons, is pictured addressing
the Westmount Rotary Club, a suburb of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. |
 |
|
 |
Should you
be a Rotarian and are looking for an opportunity to go to a make-up meeting,
Rotarian Four Villages would be more than pleased to take you along to
his regular weekly meeting held on Wednesdays between 12:30 pm and
2:00pm. |

FVI Hosts Yet Another Canadian High Commissioner
* June 16, 2008
|
| Since
opening in January, 2000, FOUR VILLAGES INN has had the honour and pleasure
of hosting every serving Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana. Here's what
His Excellency Mr. Darren Schemmer wrote in our guest book upon his first
visit: |
| "Thank you for your hospitality.
This is a real home away from home! Loved our talks about Africa and Ghana."
D.S. |
| Soon
after this, His Excellency stopped in with his wife, Heather Johnston,
who wrote: "Warm and welcoming and cozy! Thank you!" |
| Recently
H.E. Mr. Schemmer had his first audience with Osei Tutu II, Asantehene,
the paramount chief of the Ashantis. Four Villages Inn was consulted on
how best His Excellency might prepare for the visit. We suggested that
he go in the company of someone known in the court to present His Excellency
and suggested Nana Debra who holds the distinction of being Right Wing
Commander in the Asantehene's army. Furthermore Nana Debrah is a close
confident of the Asantehene and what's more, a Canadian citizen having
lived and taught in Canada for years! Arrangements were made and pictured
here is H.E. Schemmer with his wife Heather Johnston along with Nana Debrah
just before heading off to the palace to greet Otumfuo. |

The Kipharts Return to Four Villages * May
28, 2008
|
 |
For
a third time to Four Villages Inn and a fourth time to the Ashanti Region,
Dick and Susie Kiphart from Chicago USA are back to carry on with their
philanthropic work creating wells and water sources (more than 45, so far)
in Ashanti and the Cape Coast area, working with the NGO: DASFA. Furthermore,
the Kipharts and supporters have provided funds for two nurseries and one
junior school in villages where previously there were none. |
Also, they
have supported the Kumasi Children's Welfare Clinic and were part of the
development of three clinics that support multiple villages. When leaving,
Susie and Dick said: "We intend to continue this until we can't walk ...maybe
longer!" They also made a donation to Scott Trade Institute, your host
Charity's non-profit vocational school, of US$1,000.00. MADAASI PEE-THANK
YOU! |

CBC "Ideas" Black Star Radio Series * May
16, 2008
|
In Edition
13 of the VILLAGE NEWS, we brought your attention to a wonderful two part
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio series on Ghana at her 50h birthday.
Well, we now have part three of the series which itself is divided into
three parts: Part 1 on highlife music, Part 2 on Doing Business in Ghana
and Part 3 on community and chieftaincy. The part on business features
theory is presented by Anthony Kwame Appiah, a professor of philosophy
from Princeton University along with down and dirty descriptions of the
harsh realities given by none other than Frank Scott from Four Villages
Meats. |
